Thanks for the excellent epistle!

I think you're right in saying that Madame Callas'
vocal trouble comes from a faulty technique to start
with, combined I should say with all the other hype
etc that the poor woman had to put up with. I suppose
she was the first opera singer to have to endure such
rigorous prying by the press and film cameramen.

I have always thought (and this'll probably stir up
the proverbial hornets nest; no matter) that she was a
mezzo with an extended top. I may be quite wrong here,
but them's my sentiments! Just my tuppence ha'penny
worth you understand?

It strikes me that when she was young and rather more
corpulent, the voice had an extra dimension than when
she turned into Audrey Hepburn. However, these are
summisings, and we'll never really know I guess? What
is important is the very great legacy she left us.
Thankfully, there is good copy on both live recordings
and videos of a great artist at work.
