At least as far as keyboard and instrumental music goes, there are a lot
of Baroque and Classical sources for ornamenting cadences. Most of what
is said in those sources is just as well applicable to vocal music. I
know for example that there are a couple of pieces by Ignaz Moscheles
based on Malibran's cadenzas to some operatic arias; they are basically
harmonized transcriptions and they are far more florid than most of the
ones found in Liebling's book.
