I recommend Clifton Ware's book -- can't think of the title now. I've used Stanton, and don't care for several of the chapters which are about "why we choose to sing" and other psychological questions which i found the students did not want to deal with -- most of them just want to learn how to sing and to start into it right away without that type of delving. Ware's chapters on anatomy and physiology are excellent, as well; there are several good exercises (not that you wouldn't have plenty of your own) and the chapter on vowels and consonants is also excellent IMHO.
