But they are the same! [j] is the IPA symbol for [y], which is used by many English- speaking linguists and belongs to a system named EPD-14 (after the *14*th edition of Jones's *E*nglish *P*ronunciation *D*ictionary ). [y] is also seen in Brazilian linguistics books.
