Yes. Sightreading is one of the skills you have to learn at Spanish
Conservatories. When you do the exams to work at public schools here as a
music teacher, one of this exams consists on sightreading a score that the
jury has just given you and that you haven't seen in your life !

Personally I had a very good solfege teacher. Singing for several years in a
choir also helps. Reading the score of the oberture while you are waiting to
sing at concerts or operas is also good and relaxing.
