Interesting. A few years ago, an 18 year old soprano came here after winning some portion of the Ponselle competition. The Ponselle people were distressed that she had determined to attend a university rather than continue under their guidance. They wrote her several letters discouraging her from her studies here. Her pride and attitude from the competition, unfortunately, outpaced her skill and dedication as a student here. She eventually graduated but not without a great struggle which finally helped her see the level of self-discipline and courage necessary to be a singer.
