Well put, Diane!
I'd also add that each and every church choir member has a totally different
reason for being in that choir! I've found that they fall into roughly three
categories: 1) the spiritual needs are met thru music, 2) this is their only
opportunity for musical expression of any kind and 3) this is one of their few
social interactions.
Lord, forgive those of us who want sopranos to sound like sopranos, altos to
sound like mezzos, contraltos or counter-tenors, tenors to sound like tenors,
etc, etc...
