First of all Alex, has your voice always had a harsh tone? Are you
abusing your voice by talking wrong or ingesting a poor diet? We now
know that it takes 72 hours or longer for your vocal cords to heal after
you sing, etc. If your voice is harsh from yelling, (like a cheerleader
does)
then you perhaps need to take a long break from singing to let everything
heal. Then, you should see a vocal teacher to teach you to talk in a correct
way that protects your vocal cords.

If your natural voice has a harsh tone, then you perhaps need to start
singing
Bob Segar tunes. (Just joking with you) You need to use what God
gave you and make the best of it. You also need to ask what niche
you can create with your voice that would make you better than everyone
else out there?

As far as the health of your cords, make sure that you always keep them
moist. Drinking the right amount of water each day is crutial to vocal
health! If you live in a dry area, then you should consider a vaporizer
at night.

Good luck.

Steve
