At least in Boston we have 'GBH, but they also do not do a great deal of vocal music, and their classical programming is only from 8 in the morning to 4 in the afternoon. The Harvard station WHRB plays all kinds of interesting stuff, vocal and otherwise, but again classical from only 1 to 6. They stream live on the web and have the Live at the Met on Saturdays. WCRB is hopeless. They just play the Top 40.

An excerpt from Robert Giddings "Musical Quotes and Anecdotes", published in Longman Pocket Companions: "There let the pealing organ blow, To the full-voiced choir below, In service high, and anthems clear, As may with sweetness, through mine ear, Dissolve me into ecstasies, And bring all Heav'n before mine eyes". John Milton - Il Penseroso (1632).

Karen and Norma: I LOVE you! I can just hear Karen singing out "Mira, O Norma..." right about now! Be glad you haven't lived in the armpit of the South! I purchased a booster for my radio in my car so I could get poor, scratchy reception from the Raleigh, NC area classical station, and, again, you got it! FEW singers! Every now and again you'd catch Pavarotti when they were raising money for their annual fund drive. I can relate! The local channel played Kathleen Ferrier's recording of Mahler's "Kindertotenlieder" and I nearly fell out!! A friend in Canada told me she heard Ferrier singing "Blow the wind southerly" over the radio station there. I should BE so LUCKY!! Things are tough all over! Ed
