I am hoping one of you can help me with a small translation. I am trying
to figure out what the following sentence actually means (in English):
"Il tenore si impegna ultra uires: le quali, com'e noto,
non sono moltissime: ma merita il riconoscimento, e gli acuti schiacciati
o stimbrati (quel La diesis!) sono ormai clausola di stile nella
prestazione di quasi ogni tenore."
I understand most of it, but I don't know what is meant by "uires" or
"stimbrati" (neither word is in my Italian dictionary), and while I know
what "schiacciati" usually means, I'm not sure what it means in this
context.
Can anyone help?
