Deanna,
I think the theraputic thing has to do with the increase in the student's self
image/self esteem! It's almost a psychological paycheck to be paid to observe
this over and over with each new student! Tone improves, range improves and
about that time (if they're female) somehow Merle Norman usually does a
makeover! A friend once overheard one of my students and immediatly presented
me with a plaque which I own to this day that reads "You can't teach a PIG to
sing! It only wastes your time and annoys the pig!". I do NOT have that plaque
in my studio!!
PS: I LOVE your name! I had a student once who idolized Deanna Durbin! She
sang more like Bidu Sayao, tho, when I look back on it. Lovely lyric coloratura
soprano. Had alot of fun with "Vilja" from "Merry Widow" as I recall.

I
was thinking too, so many of my adult students say their lessons with me
are sort of like therapy sessions for them, through the singing and
breathing and the silly noises we make.
