Subject:  Re:Suggestions for lullabies?

Rachel asks:
I'm looking for 4 or 5 simple songs (for soprano) with piano
accompaniment......does anyone have any recommendations?

----------------------

Some of my all time favourites that are mostly simple, hypnotic and dreamy, and
just plain beautiful include:

All The Pretty Little Horses - Folk Song

Suo Gan - aka Lullaby - Welsh Folk Song

The Garten Mother's Lullaby - Irish Folk Song - from County Donegal (see Herbert
Hughes collection Boosey and Hawkes)

All Through The Night - Welsh Folk Song

Coventry Carol (You know, the beautiful Christmas one? Lullay thy tiny little
child, etc.)

God Bless The Child (Hertzog/Holiday)

Sometimes I feel Like A Motherless Child

Golden Slumbers - both the traditional and Lennon/McCartney

Mocking Bird - aka Hush Little Baby - Folk Song

Forever Young (Dylan)

When At Night I Go To Sleep (Humperdinck) from Hansel and Gretel

Mozart's Cradle Song - Sleep my Princess - sorry don't know the German for it.

And of course the Brahms and the Schumann but you've got them.

Hope these might be of some assistance to you Rachel. A recording from a friend
singing lullabies would be one of the most treasured gifts I could think of to
give a new born. Do you have to limit it to only four or five? You could maybe
do a couple of folk ones unaccompanied. Just a suggestion. Hope you enjoy the
process, I loved singing to my own daughter as a baby, which is just as well.
Now she's older she always tells me to shut up the meanie! Geez but it's hard
getting an appreciative audience these days! LOL

Cheers

Michelle

Reality is just a figment of your imagination.
