Subject:  [vocalist] Barbara Hendricks sings Gershwin

On this page you can find a version of Summertime by Patricia Barber
that begins with voice and bass improvisations that last just over
four minutes:

She's in the key of A minor, and embellishes the melody to take it
outside the range of an octave.

On the same album she sings "You Stepped Out of a Dream", ending the
song with a long vamp through which she performs a vocal
improvisation that extends all the way up to an F (or is it Fb?) an
octave above the top of the treble clef.
