I think Sylvia McNair sings musical theater real well. Kathleen Battle's
vocal production lends itself to other genres but she falls way short on the
style ... at times.

More men cross over better, a la 3 mo tenors... but men come out of chest and
don't need to distort the vowels so low in the voice to gain acoustic
amplification of an inherently weaker form of phonation (the low muddy female
mix).

I'm all for a pedagogy that is inherently versatile. One needs to make a
living.
