Hello. First of all, a conservatory, in general, IS "college". My daughter
recently graduated from a well-known and respected conservatory in the NE,
and received a four-year degree. She was a graduate of a performing arts HS
(she began there in 9th grade) prior to going to college. There are a number
of reasons that such a school CAN be a good thing for a student, and several
things to think about when making this decision:

1. Check out the faculty. A HS arts school with good faculty in the
arts can give your daughter a head start on the basic music theory, history,
and technique that she will study at any music school in her university
years.
2. Make certain that the academic subjects are also taught at a high
level so that her college applications mean something.
3. A performing arts HS can help your daughter learn what the
'atmosphere' of a music school is like. She may or may not want this type of
atmosphere. A good thing to learn.
4. Very important: arts high schools are often where the
conservatories come to audition prospective schools. When my daughter was
applying to colleges, she had at least 4 auditions right there in her high
school, where reps from various conservatories came to interview and audition
students.
5. Arts HS are 'in the know' about the music business, and that's a good
thing, too!

NOTE: if you can find a good arts HS in a community where you have
relatives, your daughter could live with them and save you the tuition and
room and board, most likely. Just a thought.

Best of luck making the right decision for your daughter. Best wishes to
her.

Sincerely,
