This workshop will explore innovative practice and teaching
techniques for the voice that incorporate the latest developments in
brain research and movement sciences, as well as the learning theory
and movement lessons of the Feldenkrais Method®.

"Building An Imaginary Instrument" will help singers and teachers
become clearer about how the body and mind work together in order to
change undesirable habits. These habits can hinder healthy singing
and inhibit artistic communication. Ms. McAmis will introduce the
"Singer's Playbox(TM)", a playful tool created for the singer and
teacher for the purpose of teaching self-observation skills, body
awareness, artistic intention and physical and emotional coordination.

Carol McAmis has been a member of the Voice Faculty at Ithaca College
since 1979. Ms. McAmis holds the Bachelor of Music degree in Piano
Performance with a minor in Vocal Performance and the Master of Music
degree in Vocal Performance from the University of Kansas. She is a
Guild Certified Feldenkrais® practitioner and a member of the
Feldenkrais Guild®. For the last twenty years, she has studied and
developed a holistic approach to teaching musicians in addition to
maintaining an active performing career in recital, oratorio, and
opera.
