I think it's a stunner, but I don't really consider it a beginner's aria. It wants a lot of breath control for long phrases, and you really should understand Baroque ornamentation for the da capo.
However, I don't think that singing it will be harmful to you.
Thanks to Beverly Sills, Cleopatra has become identified as a coloratura role, but I tend to think that this particular aria is best suited for a larger voice--either a full lyric or more dramatic coloratura. That's just my opinion, however! In general, I tend to prefer somewhat fuller voices in Handel.
Why not take a look at Zerlina's arias (from Don Giovanni)? Or Belinda's arias from Dido & Aneas?
