The Countess is not a role performed by beginners. As a character she
is a mature woman, which means anything between 35 and 45 to most
directors. (Mozart most certainly knew this and wrote accordingly.)
Vocally this can often translate to the singer being 45 to 55 to
handle the demands of the music written for it when we're talking
Mozart. There is a reason Opera companies start their baby sopranos
out in the roles of Cherubino, Barbarina and Marcellina before
letting them loose on even Susanna.

My Private Teacher said that "Quando" is too difficult but that I could do O
Mio, however, I need something of this or lesser caliber, not this particular
aria. You see all of my research and cds include those major Operas, so how do
I ever know what is working for me unless I ask someone who has experience
singing these? I LOVE the input. I do agree, Most of the Mozart I found has
been very advanced, a simpler Mozart piece would be perfect. That would give me
the opportunity to develop my lyric range.
Another aria I was considering as well is Cleopatra's Aria titled: V'Adore
Pupille
From Guilio Ceasare
What do you think of this?

Sincerely,
Julie
