Subject:  The Countess

I agree with Diane that The Countess is probably in her 20s. However,
what I see as important is that the singers today who would reflect
the emotional maturity and life experience of the Countess of the mid
eighteenth century would be about ten to fifteen years older.

I also agree and must STRONGLY state that the Countess is not a role
for a young singer - her arias are demanding and big and full, not to
mention. Learn Deh vieni or Voi che sapete before you learn Porgi
amor. I myself would never assign it to anyone who wasn't pretty far
along in their training.
