Just a reminder when talking about laryngeal position.....

There are some that advocate a higher larynx for style, and some that
advocate a lowered larynx for style. In my experience teaching, an
overemphasis of either, or allegiance to either, is wrong. The goal is to
achieve a larynx that is "stable", neither too high, or too low.

However, when training students, it is often common to emphasize exercises
that encourage an extreme of either position in order to help bring the
student to a more balanced level, and give them a more realistic sense of
balanced phonation. The results are often very dramatic for the student and
they think they are "cured." The danger in using exercises that encourage
extremes, is that the student will think that singing in this over-corrected
way is the way that they should always be singing, when in fact, it is only
one of the first steps to get them to vocal freedom.
