Subject:  Re: grad pedagogy programs

I would not recommend the doctoral program in voice
science at University of Iowa for the purpose of
learning more about teaching voice or even getting a
singer's overview of voice science. It's basically
several years of hardcore physics! Many of the
scientists here are not singers. The few singers
doing work here mostly put their music aside while
taking one calculus class after another.

I can, however, recommend the vocology courses offered
at Denver. I took the classes here at UI. A couple
of weeks in Denver, Colorado in the summer looks like
a lot more fun than several months in the Iowa winter.
:)

I happen to know that the UI school of music offers a
DMA in vocal pedagogy. Other than the fact that you
must take "Principles of Vocal Production" from Ingo
Titze, I don't know that it has much to recommend it.

I have heard from more than one source, though, that
the UNT program is very good.

Best regards,
Jennifer
