"Oh my Papa" actually originated as "O mein Papa", by Swiss composer Paul Burkhard (1911-1977), in his musical DER SCHWARZE HECHT, which premiered at the Schauspielhaus in Zurich on 1 April 1939 (and of which there is actually a recording, on the Tudor label, made in 1981). The song appeared again in Burkhard's later musical FEUERWERKE (1950). The fact that the song was later translated into several languages, (and transcribed into several instrumental arrangements) and popularized by singers ranging from Lys Assia, to Eddie Fisher (probably the most popular recording of the song), The Andrews Sisters, and The Kingston Trio, to the Simpsons (!).
