Interestingly enough, I've just begun to collect theatrical movies about opera, singing, and music in general. A few I have or am trying to get:
Meeting Venus- with Glenn Close (set during a production of Tannhauser)
Yes, Giorgio- with Pavarotti (awful film, but I'd like to own it)
Madame Sousatzka- with Shirley McLain (about a piano teacher, but a great film!) I just "won it" on Ebay!
Diva- not really about opera. Wilhelmina Fernandez appears as an opera star with an obsessed fan.
Waiting for Guffmann-from the same people who did "This is Spinal Tap" and "Best in Show" about community theatre-a riot!
The Accompanist-about a French singer and her accompanist during the occupation of France in WWII. Supposed to be good, still trying to find it.
The Harmonists-about the Comedian Harmonists, a German vocal group before WWII. I own it, but haven't gotten around to watching it yet. It's supposed to be good.
Mr. Holland's Opus-enough said!
