Cleveland is a nice place to be for summer music.
Being a Clevelander for several years now- I, too, echo these sentiments that Cleveland/Northeast Ohio is wonderful place to catch a wide variety of musical events happening in the summer season. Mistake-by-the-lake, BAH!! In addition to the already great suggestions made by Trevor, worth mentioning is the Cleveland Art Song competition happening mid to late May at the Cleveland Institute of Music (which is always illuminating and wonderful to observe) as well as performances by Lyric Opera Cleveland in a new locaation at the Cleveland Playhouse, whose rep goes from the traditional to more contemporary works (Patience, Don Giovanni, and John Adams' I looked at the ceiling and saw the sky)- so, there's plenty a-happening here, lots o' stuff for all to enjoy!!
Yep, summers here do get hot and a little stinky (the humidity here even tries the patience of this "humidity seasoned" Aussie!), but mostly it's glorious- and then there's the Flats area for more nighttime fun and music.......

If I'm not mistaken, the Blossom Music Center is not out in Kent, but in Boston Heights (about 45 mins. from Cleveland going southways, a little before hitting Akron)- within very easy highway access, and evening performances are truly magical under the stars.
Anyways- good luck with your planning and I very much hope you get a chance to visit this fair city!!
