The National Artistic Effort, in collaboration with the Carnegie Mellon's Graduate Opera Program, Make a Difference Day Foundation, and Pittsburgh Action Against Rape will be hosting The 2002 Pittsburgh Benefit Weekend. The event will culminate with two performances of Leonard Bernstein's Trouble in Tahiti on Friday, May 10 and Saturday, May 11 at 8:00 P.M. in the Kresge Theatre at Carnegie Mellon's College of Fine Arts.
The National Artistic Effort is a national organization founded by CMU graduate Ja-Naé Duane in 2001, which strives to unite artists in order to facilitate positive change within our communities. The proceeds from this weekend's event will benefit NAE and Pittsburgh Action Against Rape.
Director Jonathan Eaton (Artistic Director of the Opera Theatre of Pittsburgh) and Musical Director Sean Kelly team up for the first time to create this innovative production. Bernstein's light musical touch, an amplified doo-wop trio, jazzy rhythms and touching lyricism make this production of Trouble in Tahiti especially poignant.
