how else could so many charlatans do so well in our business?

i say, go on the sounds and the artistry and trust yourself to make
the right judgment.

Mike,
Young aspiring artists of all types go through many objective goals.
Pianists, for example, play through scales (forever, seemingly), and worry
about such things as hand position. Of course there are the notable few
(and there aren't that many) who can "break the rules" and still be great.
Are you suggesting that singing has no objective standards to which students
should be taught? Frankly, I have known a few teachers who only teach
"sounds", and their students' techniques were appalling, and they often had
trouble down the road. I am not interested in helping develop singers that
sound good, but have technical deficiencies.

You don't teach things in your studio that are observable and objective? Do
you address posture, laryngeal position, etc with your students?
