I am at present re-reading "Respect for Acting" by Uta Hagen. Her approach to acting is a bit "serious" for *my* taste, but her methods are similar to those I've arrived at on my own, and I'm glad to have the validation.
I also recommend, if you can find it, "Being an Actor" by Simon Callow. It's part autobiography, part advice, and part fun stuff on dealing with the detritis of stage life (unemployment, actors whose methods don't jibe with yours, missing cues, costumes, a****le directors, etc. etc.).
