Subject:  SINGERS (SATB) needed for the John Link Vocal Quintet

In response to my audition notice for singers for my vocal quintet, I
have been asked by several people whether this is a paying job. The
John Link Vocal Quintet is a group like no other in the world. Its
repertoire includes nothing standard, in that we sing my wordless
vocal arrangements of instrumental music, mostly classical and jazz.
Here are some examples:

Frederic Chopin Mazurkas, Op. 17, No. 4; Op. 68, No. 2
Nocturnes, Op. 9, Nos. 1 and 2; Op. 37, No. 2
Preludes, Op. 28, Nos. 3, 4, 6, 7, 15, and 20
John Coltrane Naima
Chick Corea La Fiesta
Miles Davis Blue in Green, Pfrancing, So What
Claude Debussy La Fille aux Cheveux de Lin
Bill Evans Waltz for Debby
S. Grappelli & P. Simon Hobo's Blues
Pat Metheny Are You Going With Me?
E. and A. Morricone Cinema Paradiso Suite
Modeste Mussorgsky Bydlo/Promenade
Erik Satie Gymnopedie No. 1
Alexander Scriabin Etude, Op. 2, No. 1

I am looking for four talented and committed musicians, who use their
voices as their instruments, to help me create a group that will
break new ground. I am looking for four individuals who are so
committed to singing this music that they will be happy doing it even
if we never get paid money for doing so. This group is not a job, but
an opportunity to be part of a unique, creative act. We might make no
money, we might make a little money, or we might make a lot of money,
but in any case we are going to make some fabulous music that has
never been done before.

Most excellent singers are not qualified to be in this group, due to
its requirement of being able to sing various genres without sounding
like a caricature of each of the genres. Then there is the
requirement of being able to alternate between being a soloist and a
member of an ensemble, and the requirements of being able to memorize
parts and to improvise something on the spot. But if you think you
have what it takes to be part of this innovative group that is bound
for success, and if you would be willing to commit yourself to this
group, then call (212)463-7102 to schedule an audition.
