<<<but do they work the same way as Karaoke does with the words displayed on a screen as you go? >>>>
I don’t think so, but you could do like they do with this band called
“rockaroke” out here in Seattle.. you can sing with a “live” 3 piece band.. pick a song from the list and they have a notebook on a music stand with the words printed really big in lieu of the words appearing on a monitor.
For opera you could have the words printed phonetically… and I mean in layman’s phonetics, not the International Phonetic Alphabet. If you used a good karaoke player machine you could transpose the cd’s up or down for each individual singer … I think you can go up and/or down as far as a minor 3rd on most of the machines? … and to add a visual element to maybe make the event more multi-media.. you could have a big screen behind the singer with a power point slide show or video of singers who are famous for singing the arias!! Pavarotti bigger than life behind some Joe engineer trying to belt out an aria from Rigoletto!! You could have footage of the 3 Tenors singing whatever they sing that’s well know while 3 guys are trying to sing it too.. only you wouldn’t hear the 3 Tenors, you’d just see them… Joan Sutherland singing Lucia’s mad scene while the local high school choir track coach tries it too! It would be so fun!!
I think this type of thing would be better in a dinner theatre format… maybe even black tie and opera gowns and prizes for the best “acts”??
****###!!!See what happens to me when I have to drive to Seattle (32 miles one way) on a beautiful Saturday (for a change) afternoon to rehearse my church choir because Easter is next week… my brain goes crazy!
