Yes, I do. It is what I would call a "hard mix" and it is has the color of a
pop or blues belter. I just did it yesterday in my warm up, noticing that I
(a contralto-ish mezzo) could take a hard mix all the way up to the high Ab,
but had a hard time with it on A. Of course, the sound that came out was
nothing related to operatic sound, it was the sound I use to sing R & B.
Since I need to open my voice and warm it up with chest voice, it works
really well for me to do so, and then go back and do the whole thing again,
slowly allowing the "head" resonance to wash in, until I have my full
operatic tone. (In my case, if I allow my "head" resonance to fill in too
early, when I am not fully opened up, the sound is out of the "honker",
becomes unsteady, a little woofy, and not as solid and brilliant as it should
be). I am, in effect, singing out of registration, and the head effectively
pulls the voice "down and back" instead of keeping it "up and forward". When
I am careful about slowly allowing the head to fill in, that phenomenon
doesn't happen, and I am very happily singing with fully connected, ringing
tone in all registers.
