Dear Mike and Vocalisters:
Your point that little research is available in print that address the possibility of achieving proper vocal function for singing through the use of everyday sounds is, in my experience, most accurate. However, many of these everyday sounds are incorporated in the therapy techniques used by speech therapists and the success rates of these techniques are sometimes documented and, consequently, taught as valid approaches toward improving the speech habits of patients. Because voice teaching is not a licensed activity as is speech therapy, voice teaching does not have the advantage of proscribed programs of study that reflect the collected and proven success techniques found in a more regulated form of preparation.
