michael,

you should check out rene kollo's covers of 'pretty woman' and 'hello
mary-lou', both in german (no, he doesn't sound like an out of place opera
singer). i have always admired him as a wagner singer and, because of that,
i had convinced myself that i liked the sound of his voice (similar to going
swimming in the ocean off the coast of maine) but, on these two songs, his
voice really does sound good with no need for convincing. his voice
healthier and not strained at all (makes me wonder just how safe singing
opera really is).

and speaking of 'crossover' singers, if eileen farrell can be
considered a crossover singer, why can't bocelli, instead of having to call
him 'popera' or some other less than respectful label?

mike
