The ever-pragmatic French had a way of dealing with your dilemma. They invented new vocal categories for women and men who were "on the fence" (the vocal 'tweenies). In the case of the "not quite soprano, not quite mezzo" - characterised in the lighter timbre by Mme. Dugazon and in the heavier timbre by Mme. Falcon - they actually invented vocal categories named after these ladies, categories that reflected he qualities of those two voices. Similarly, the "not quite tenor, not quite baritone" Baryton Martin. The point being, instead of trying to shoehorn their singers into _fachs_ where those singers didn't really "fit", they created _fachs_ that fit the singers.
So perhaps you are a dugazon (if you're a "not quite lyric mezzo") or a falcon (if you're a "not quite dramatic soprano").
