alot of this depends on age...the female voice goes through a ton of changes in ones 20's many mezzos turn 30 and turn into a dramatic soprano. your teacher may be staying on the safe side by giving you mezzo rep if you are a younger and inexperienced singer. What rep did he assign? and in what keys? how is your lower range...where does your voice feel most comfortable for longer periods of time? as for whether or not a teacher should make this declaration this quickly...some ears have a true gift for bringing out and hearing a singers true voice type/fach (I am not claiming this talent) but this generally come with years of experience and working with a lot of singers. Best advice if you love to sing, keep singing and keep working...you never know what will happen! christine
