Subject:  Mic placement to record a vocal quintet

I'm planning to record my vocal quintet this week and would
appreciate advice about microphone placement from anyone who has
relevant knowledge and experience.

I'm planning to use a matched pair of cardioid condenser mics (yet to
be determined) spread about one foot apart and oriented 90 degress
from each other. Is it best to have the tails cloe together or apart?
The five singers will stand in a partial circle that has a radius of
about five or six feet, depending upon how many degrees of the circle
we occupy. 90 degrees would point each mic at a singer on the end.
That seems like we wouldn't be spread enough and that maybe we should
occupy something like 135 degress, or maybe even 180 degrees That
would point the mics at singers 2 and 4; singers 1 and 5 would each
be 45 degrees to the outside of the closest mic, and singer 3 would
be 45 degress off center of both mics.

Does any of my thinking make any sense?

Thank you in advance for your suggestions.
