I'm with Randy. Start charging at least $40 with new students, preferably $50, and start increasing what you charge your current students as well. You may want to raise them incrementally to make it easier for them to adjust.
There is NO WAY I could pay 50.00 per lesson. And of course a shrink would tell you to sock it to people....that's whata shrink does as well. I still say teachers should charge what the market will bear...and too right Richard Miller would be LUCKY to exchange a coconut for a voice lesson on a dessert island! I would NEVER pay anyone with a BA 50.00 a lesson. I don't care how long that person was teaching...I myself have two BA degrees, and I am NO expert on either subject. I would pay more to take lessons from someone who was a tenured faculty member or who everyone raved about...but credentials and education count.
