Hi John,
A nigun, as far as I know from my Jewishfriends, isn’t just about being
a song with nonsense syllables.. but it is a form of prayer.
One sings the nigun to free the mind of words so that one can be more
connected to
G-d. So, you wouldn’t call just anything a nigun, a nigun is a prayer
that is sung.
