Just for future reference, the generally-accepted way of posting to a mailing list or other online group about an article is to copy and paste the first paragraph of the article, followed by the link to the full article (which in this case would be http://www.nytimes.com/2002/02/17/arts/music/17SING.html ).
Pasting the first paragraph (or some other relevant short excerpt) gives readers an idea of what the article is about, and the link allows them to read it on their computers without violating copyright. Pasting the entire article is generally considered copyright violation.
