Dear Vocalisters:
Is it now true that all pops music must be done in a particular way as is true in classical music. It was my understanding that one the most desirable qualities about jazz, pop, rock, swing, etc. is the fact that the performer is in charge of the final stage of composition.
I was not aware that this music has become so strongly defined that it is no longer possible for the individual performer to impress his very strong personality on it. I long for the days when each song had a unique quality because the performer had a unique quality. But evidently anyone now performing such music must meet some criteria that has been established by the listener's favorite singer. Sad.
