The most important thing about cantoring in the Catholic Church is to
encourage the congregation to respond. They need encouragement. You are
correct about the responsorial Psalm movement is indicated quite often
by quarter or eighth notes. It depends on whose compositions you are
doing how it is notated. I'm new to the group(hi, all) I cantored for
several years sat a huge church in Baltimore. The congregation was
mosatly elderly and still stuck in pre-Vatican II mode where there was
no singing at Mass except by the choir. Things have improved. Glad I
