I remember when I learned the song seeing it illustrated with a drawing of a couple in c.1900 clothes in a rowboat. The woman is wearing a big hat with LOTS of feathers. Maybe it's all a little metaphor for courtship and marriage.
Or, you could just go with "Cielito Lindo."
