Subject:  Re: [vocalist] pseudo opera

Hi Richard,Ciao

I really do not think of Bocelli, Brightman or Church as Opera
singers. I think they are pop singers using a more operatic style of
singing. This in its own way has a certain appeal. When I listen to
Opera I feel the need to concentrate and "listen". Pop opera on the
other hand doesn't necessarily require my brain to function;) I can go
on about my business and sing along.

In consideration of this particular debate, the bottom line is that is
seems to sell! My business partner and I a requested to perform "The
Prayer " and "Time to say Goodbye" on a regular basis. People cant
seem to get enough of it, much to our dismay. We are in the process
of try to reinvent these songs in order to keep ourselves amused.

Maybe it is because these songs were played on the more mainstream
radio stations rather than only classical stations. I have yet to
hear Una Voce Poco Fa on a station that plays light pop. Pop opera
also tends to use more than one language in a song. Maybe this adds
to the appeal because people can understand what they are listening
to. Maybe people are also attracted to the idea that the music has a
somehow foreign quality.

This said, I do find the debate of exploitation of the artist
to seel the music. How much of a voice will Charlotte Church have left
when she is 30? Elly
