Final bit of advice to everyone: SHOP THE INTERNET!

You'll be amazed all the electronic goodies you can find online that are
no longer stocked in the local electronics shops.

Also, I strongly recommend seeking out high-quality refurbished
electronics stores.

Finally, don't always stop looking after the most obvious stores have
turned up trumps. Portable audio cassette recorders may be phased out in
the local Radio Shack, Best Buy, and Circuit City, but you may well find
them at a good musical instrument shop or office supply store. Also, if
you're looking for anything higher quality, you should seek out
professional audio specialty stores - i.e., where radio stations, etc. get
their equipment. Sometimes these shops offer refurbished equipment at a
fraction of the original price.
