the word 'technique' simply refers to the method by which something is accomplished. unfortunately, there are quite a few classical singers who think that a classical technique is the method by which all music should be sung. this is beyond silly, especially for women. in evaluating a singer, of any kind of music, the question "do i like what this person is doing?" is seperate from "how are they doing that?".
andrea, you said of kathleen battle "i wouldn't want that sound after years of training - what a waste of time and money". i have to ask you, if you are a rock singer and are taking lessons in order to get better at rock singing, why are you studying with a classical voice teacher? (that's not a rhetorical question.)
david, you beat me to it with the analogy to 'fundamentalists'. perhaps the story of jonah could be a parable for bocelli's experience singing opera.
