I think what you wrote was right Peggy! About 2 years ago Charlotte
impressed me. Now in my 5th year of vocal study I cringe when I listen
to her. Why? Because she isn't doing some of the things that I am
taught by my teacher in order to "sing properly". I also just don't
like the sound of her voice. When I first heard Cecelia Bartoli I
didn't like the sound of her voice either. Now I listen with a
different ear and am impressed at what she can do with her voice! Will
this all change as I go on with my lessons? Who knows or who cares?
We listen to music for enjoyment at times and we listen the music to
learn at times.

>>hen I first started studying voice, and I listened to singers, I
liked singing
that now I find problematic. I think this was because
I was comparing that
singing to my own, and at first I heard something
better than the sound I was
making at the time.

As my technique has progressed, and I continue to
listen to singers, I am more
sensitive to the technical issues I am mastering. And
I'm much pickier about
singing that previously I thought sounded fine.

I wonder whether Andrea has already experienced a
little of this herself,
perhaps in relation to the singers of
pop/rock/country/etc. music? If so, a
few years hence, her opinion of Ms. Church's vocal
techique may be different
than it is today.
