Unusual as in "out of the ordinary". So it's not about the normal singing or speaking voice but about sounds people do not usually make with their voice. The voice has a lot more possibilities than most people think. A large part of your voice remains unexplored. If you experiment you can find sounds you never thought you could make. And if you hear others make such sounds and you try to copy them you learn a lot too. If you can make an accidental wonderful sound you can always learn to make at at will and perfect it through some practise. Think of the vocal experiments of Bobby mcFerrin, the imitation of animal sounds, controled growling and screaming like some singers can do very well, throatsinging, vocal fry (a technique in which you can produce a tone with the vocal chords an octave below the normal voice, you can hear a sample in the files section of the group), strange cartoon-voices etc. Exploring my voice has done miracles for my normal singing, but I am aware that there is a lot more to explore. If others are doing the same, please join the group, we can share experiences and sounds and learn from each other.
