I'll answer to the use of "G*d", because I wrote it. A former vocalister who posts to another singing list I am on did so and when questioned, explained it beautifully as a part of the Jewish faith. I liked it, liked the respect it conveyed, and even though it was probably unsuitable in this context - did it anyway. I wasn't trying to be PC, not that I think there's a thing wrong with being considerate of others' feelings and beliefs, even when taken perhaps to an extreme. I do think it's far and away preferable to the alternative! And if someone in a group with which I communicate daily expressed a sentiment that meant a great deal to them, I would certainly take note. It's like baking brownies and remembering that you have a friend who really loves them - so you set aside a plate for them. Not because you have to - she doesn't know you're baking today. But you remembered she liked them. Of course, if she's on a diet, then that's another thing and next time you'll remember that too. Rats, now I want a brownie.
I do think I understand what Colin means about PC though - sometimes we're pretty funny in the lengths we'll go to avoid an ugly e-scene. When we want to reply, "What the ___ are you talking about? Did you even read my post before attacking me ?!! you #$%)(*()!! we says instead, "I'm confused by your last post. Perhaps you missed the last paragraph of my original post, let me qouote it for your here. Thank you for your enthusiastic reply!"
It is fun every once in awhile to have a "ralucob" (Mike) drop in on us and stir things up. Where is he BTW? Did anyone send him the memo?
