I am putting together an application for a competition featuring the music of Finnish composer Yrjo Kilpinen . For a variety of reasons, I have not yet ordered/received the music for the 2nd and 3rd rounds and I need to select a couple of songs, two in Finnish, three in Finnish/German/Swedish. I think I have two of the German ones picked, just from the recordings I've heard on Amazon.com, that would suit my voice. However, the Finnish ones are hard to come by....
Is anyone familiar enough with this composer to be able to recommend two (or three (Finnish pieces for me? Lyric mezzo soprano, easy top, pretty expressive, IMHO, not a particularly low mezzo. I just have to put them down on the sheet - once I get the books, I can actually make changes in my program up till March 1, assuming I make it that far.
One caveat: They can't be from Opus 100, the Kanteletar (a collection of folk songs). I already have those and have made my choices.
Thanks.... the audition packet is due in Madison 1/15.... I thought retiring from choral singing would allow me to be more on top of things, but I still have to work on the procrastination problem.... <sigh>
