nfinit,

i had one student who had her tonsils taken out after i had been working
with her for two years (so, i knew her voice pretty well). after she came
back, there did seem to be a bit more resonance in her voice. it was a
subtle difference, as if she had gone from talking and singing in a dry room
to a live room (and, not even that big a difference). she reported that she
was much more comfortable singing as she was more comfortable with everything
that had to do with her throat.

with regard to whether or not it is a good idea to have them out, i am
not qualified, in any way, to say. i can tell you that i had both my
adnoids and tonsils out when i was six years old and i have still managed to
lead a rich, full life.
