Hello Karen,

I got a little muddled as to the requirements for your competition.
However, you mentioned Cara sposa being very long (which is it) and I just
wanted to recommed a shorter, also beautiful Handel aria - Verdi Prati, from
Handel's Alcina that is for mezzo. It's sung by the guy (can't remember his
name) who gets seduced by Alcina, and at the time he sings this aria, he is
remembering the beauties of her enchanted island with some sadness. It's
divine.... not done very often, but neither is it unheard of either.

If you like Mahler - what about Um mitternacht, which I wish I could sing,
but it works better in a fuller voice, and with a lower voice too I think so
maybe you will like it. I think it's one of the Ruckert lieder.

Fiona
